Date / Time:

08-09-2017 - 12:00

Type of seminar :

Seminar and meetings

Summary :

Prof. Avi Karni, M.D., Ph.D., heads the Laboratory of Human Brain and Learning (HBL) at the Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for the Study of Learning Disabilities (of which he is a founding member) and at the Sagol Department of Neurobiology, the University of Haifa. He holds an appointment as a senior physician at the fMRI unit in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the C. Sheba Medical Center. Prof. Karni's research addresses the neurological mechanisms of, and neuro-behavioral constraints on, human brain plasticity, learning and memory. More specifically, Prof. Karni and his students and collaborators are concerned with memory consolidation processes with a focus on motor skill acquisition but also as related to literacy skills, using neuro-imaging technologies combined with behavior analyses. Avi Karni’s work has been instrumental in introducing the concept of procedural memory consolidation as time and sleep dependent processes.
